While teaching music to some of India’s poorest children known as “the untouchables” at the Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project, two big hearted dreamers, Katy Pfaffl and Ben Houghton, were driven to stop asking questions and start creating solutions. This shared passion led them back to New York City to create Broadway’s Babies - an organization committed to giving a voice to the voiceless, using arts education bring empowerment, compassion, and possibility to children in need.
What began as a series of intimate fundraising concerts to ensure year-round music programming at Shanti Bhavan, Broadway’s Babies now serves more than 400 students with over 55 music, dance, and visual arts classes per week in three different countries including a conservatory-style programs in Haiti led by local dance, drums, visual arts and choral educators, a diverse offering of programs in New York City for the Urban Assembly School system, LGBTQ youth, and families affected by homelessness, and our continued support of the music program in India.
We value consistent, cumulative, and representative education, partnering with local administrators and teachers to create curricula that cater to the unique needs of each program. We proudly boast that over 80% of our teachers are members of the communities they serve.
